Looking For Spring

After stitching with the FABs this morning, I headed out to the tulip fields–today is the first day of the local Tulip Festival.

It may be 20 degrees out, but we are still within winter’s grasp as there are no tulips in bloom yet. The owner of the fields told me that by next weekend there would be “some” colour and hopefully within two weeks the fields will be in full bloom. However, he added that it might be longer as there is snow in the forecast for next Thursday!

On the way home, I stopped to take pictures of Mt. Cheam. It is a gorgeous mountain that overlooks our small town. No matter where you are in town, you can get a view of Mt. Cheam.

I managed to find this small plot of daffodils–the only sign that Spring can’t be far off!

Double Four Patch – Complete

You have seen this quilt before in various stages of construction. Here it is again–this time complete. The last stitches were taken on the binding a couple of weeks ago. I was waiting for the rains to stop so that I could take this quilt’s formal shot outside–today was that day. The sun shone today, people were out of hibernation walking around the streets, and I could almost be convinced that Spring is really just around the corner!

I have been working less on my own quilts lately and more on customer quilts. The tally so far this year is 13 total quilts brought in for quilting–3 of which were mine. I have finished two of my quilts completely, the third is waiting for its binding to be sewn on. Of the 10 customer quilts that have come in this year, only 3 are waiting in the wings–one of those was received today.

I have also been working on the “less is more” lifestyle. Pam has been talking about reducing the clutter in her life and this seemed like as good a time as any to follow suit. We have been re-organizing, sorting, reducing, throwing away, donating, and refusing to introduce anything futher into this house that we don’t absolutely need. As my husband said today, “Sadly, despite all the stuff that we have gotten rid of lately, it is hard to tell the difference!” Although this statement seems very true right now, I believe that if we continue to soldier on, you will be able to see a difference when you enter this house. It may take a long while, but we will get there. Eventually we will be liberated from all this clutter!

A White Christmas

This was the view from our bedroom window when we went to bed on Christmas Day. We managed to have a white Christmas this year–something that only occurs once in every 10 years here.

These photos were taken on Boxing Day just before my daughter and I headed out for the traditional Boxing Day shopping. The temperature had warmed up quite a bit from the day before and this snow quickly turned to slush.

This morning we woke up to even more snow. I am now officially tired of this white stuff and will be welcoming the liquid sunshine should it decide to return!

More Snow

The snow we received earlier in the week had melted before today.

It snowed a bit last night and then started again this morning. The snow has not stopped accumulating since this morning.

Yes, the snow is pretty. However, it is very hazardous to drive in. For that reason I do not appreciate the snow.

I made sure that I did all my errands and grocery shopping on Friday so I would not have to venture out in this stuff once it came.

We heard on the news a couple of nights ago that this winter is forecast to break records for cold temperatures. I just hope it also does not break records for snow fall!
