I don’t see how we could call that a yellowhammer other than apparently it is in the wood pecker family. I showed DJ the picture you sent this morning. He said he HAD seen one around here but then he spends way more time outside than I do.
Good to know what the Alabama state bird is, LOL.
Great photo – we have quite a few flickers that come around – they even eat at the seed feeders, though the books say they don’t.

Beautiful – and you managed such a great capture. I saw a cardinal while I was driving, but there was a car behind me so I couldn’t stop for a picture.
