Happy Birthday Dad!

December 16th is my Dad’s birthday.

We are fortunate that my parents now live in the same town that we live in. For so many years, communication was by phone with 800 to 1,200 miles between us (depending on the year and where everyone was living at the time). Visits in person were jam packed with activity, limited to a few days at a time. Now we are able to pop over to Mom and Dad’s for coffee and visa verse. We are thrilled with this arrangement! Saturday night we headed to Mom and Dad’s to enjoy birthday cake with my Dad.

For as long as I can remember, a birthday cake was an angel food cake. That is why this cake looks remarkably like the cake we had on my birthday.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

I couldn’t resist including this picture. This picture was taken by my mother of my daughter and myself taking pictures of Dad with his cake. At one point, Dad said, “That’s it, enough pictures.” I told him he had to sit still for at least one more because I had only taken one so far–the rest had been taken by the other shutterbugs in the family! I heard my daughter tell her boyfriend that this was part of the tradition, getting your picture taken with your birthday cake.

I love tradition and love even more that my kids are picking up on the traditions and sound like they will continue on with them.

Happy Birthday…To Me!

Yesterday was my birthday!

The birthday celebrations started Wednesday night. While I was at the quilt guild meeting, my daughter baked me a birthday cake. We had this cake Friday night as my daughter was going to be away Saturday night and would miss my birthday dinner.

Yesterday, my husband and daughter took me out for lunch and we all headed to my parents’ house for supper. My Mom had made me an angel food cake too (see the cake in the black and white picture).

Thank you to all who sent e-mails, cards, and presents. Yesterday was a wonderful relaxing day. Today it is back to work….well maybe not “work”. I have some quilting to do for customers so technically that is “work” but because I enjoy it so much, it doesn’t seem a lot like work.

Nine Patch Path Finds a Home

I have shown pictures of this quilt over the last year at various stages of completion. Here it is, quilted and bound. Finishing this quilt was my goal for the month of April. This picture was taken last Sunday on April 29 so I technically met my goal.

This quilt was a scrap buster on the front and a stash buster on the back. I modified Mary’s pieced back idea and used up some large pieces of blue fabric that I had in my stash. Blue was the perfect colour for the back of this quilt as it was destined as a gift for my mother-in-law who has blue in her bedroom. Even the binding was made from leftovers–two different navy blues that I had on hand in my fabric bins. I managed to use up the last piece of batting that I had on hand as well–which by the way ended up being within an inch of the right length! I was saying little prayers as I advanced the quilt hoping that the batting would be long enough.

My mother-ion-law could not attend the birthday celebration on Sunday when we celebrated Matthew and Dana’s birthdays so I presented her with her birthday quilt on Monday evening. My mother in law will be 78 on Friday, May 4.

Happy Birthday!

This week is birthday week in our house.

On Monday, April 30, our daughter, Dana turned 19.

On Thursday, May 3, our son, Matthew turns 21.

We celebrated these milestone birthdays with a family dinner last Sunday.

When I took a look back at some old pictures tonight, I came across another special birthday celebration that was also well attended by family. This is a picture of Dana’s first birthday and Matthew’s third birthday.

Here they are today–19 and 21!

Happy Birthday Matthew and Dana!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday! I have the day off from work so I am going to spend the day quilting and relaxing. We are going out for supper tonight, so I don’t even have to worry about cooking! A great way to spend the day!

I opened presents this morning. A mixer, watch, and guardian angel from my parents. A clock that crows like a rooster from my son and a Jim Shore cat, Abraham from my daughter.
