Corn and Quilts

Our community holds the title of “Corn Capital”. We have been enjoying local corn since the beginning of July. I take it for granted that we will have an endless supply of fresh corn, picked daily throughout the summer. We even have the convenience of a corn barn drive through. You don’t even need to get out of your vehicle to purchase fresh corn for supper!

Believe it or not, I have a corn quilt. I made this table runner in 2002 for the Fall Fair and Corn Festival quilt challenge. We were supposed to make a quilt that featured the theme colours of the fair –yellow and green. My piece placed second. I love this table runner. It lives in my living room on top of the piano. When I look at it, I am reminded of corn in summer….yum-yum!

This is a rare quilt picture–it has me in it. Usually I am behind the camera with my helpers holding the quilts. The photographer this time was my daughter, Dana.

  1. A CORN DRIVE THRU! How cool is that. LOL! I love fresh corn and have missed it since I moved here and don’t really have room to plant corn.

I like the table runner too. It really does look like corn. 🙂

  2. You’re adorable! A great picture of you with your corn quilt!

I chuckled at the drive-thru for corn! Miss the small community things like that!

  3. AH, you are making me hungry as well as a little homesick. If I were in IL, I would be at the Corn Festival about this time of year–10 cents an ear and cooked on a steam locomotive. YUMMY!

Neat green and yellow table runner, Norma.

  4. your table runner really does invoke the sense the of corn on the cob…. A little less salty and greasy maybe than I make mine, but corn on the cob nonetheless 🙂

  5. Corn on the cob drive thru – I love it! Corn on the cob in the summer is one of the best foods. I like your table runner it does remind me of a corn field.

  6. The runner is just great. It does remind me of an ear of corn just peeking from it’s husk. And a Corn Drive-Thru — what will they think of next? If there was one nearby, I’m sure I would be a regular.

  7. I can’t believe it..a Corn Drive Thru!! I would be there every day. I love the taste of freshly cooked corn cob with butter all over it:-)

That’s a great photo of you with your table runner.

  8. Your corn themed table runner is just lovely, and it’s nice to see you there 🙂 I would love a corn drive thru, we love corn on the cob in this house, and it can be soooo expensive!
