{"id":54,"date":"2011-08-16T00:28:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T00:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/?p=54"},"modified":"2011-08-16T00:28:00","modified_gmt":"2011-08-16T00:28:00","slug":"third-fab-birthday-par-tay-of-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/2011\/08\/third-fab-birthday-par-tay-of-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Third FAB Birthday PAR-TAY of 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Saturday we celebrated <a href=\"http:\/\/catsnqlts2.blogspot.com\/2011\/08\/fab-ulous-bday.html\">Linda&#8217;s<\/a> birthday.\u00a0 Linda is the 3rd FAB to celebrate her birthday this year.\u00a0 Linda&#8217;s &#8220;actual&#8221; birthday is August 10th but finding a date that 5 busy people can get together on line always proves to be a challenge.\u00a0 It almost always has to be a Saturday if we want to sew, and we WANTED TO SEW!\u00a0 So a date was picked&#8211;August 13 and everyone agreed to be there.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Instead of exchanging challenge projects this year, we have elected to honor the birthday girl and\u00a0surprise her with something\u00a0handmade.\u00a0Gifts were made and mailed to Linda in advance of her party.\u00a0 Saturday morning, the party kicked off with Linda taking opening each of\u00a0her parcels&#8211;in the order they were received.\u00a0 You can take a closer look at all the loot received by Linda by visiting her blog here:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/catsnqlts2.blogspot.com\/\">http:\/\/catsnqlts2.blogspot.com\/<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Linda is a lover of 30&#8217;s reproduction fabrics so I knew whatever I made, it had to be made from 30&#8217;s fabrics.\u00a0\u00a0 I decided to make some things for Linda that I use a lot myself.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The first thing I made was a mug organizer\/pinafore.\u00a0 I have one of these organizers attached to a mug on my sewing desk that is\u00a0jammed full of all those little items you can&#8217;t sew without that are easy to loose in a mass of fabric when you are sewing like,\u00a0a seam ripper,\u00a0ruler,\u00a0marking pens, pencil, wooden iron, etc.\u00a0 The pattern was from a kit that I received\u00a0during a\u00a0local quilt shop hop some years ago.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-w1omP9yWy0w\/TkiTQwV0liI\/AAAAAAAAGl4\/AooN8QFGtd0\/s1600\/mug+organizer.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"280\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-w1omP9yWy0w\/TkiTQwV0liI\/AAAAAAAAGl4\/AooN8QFGtd0\/s320\/mug+organizer.jpg\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The second item I made was a bag for Linda to take\u00a0her mug to class or guild with her.\u00a0 Our guild charges a quarter for a Styrofoam coffee cup if you forget to bring your own ceramic mug with you to guild as we are trying to promote the green option.\u00a0 I thought Linda&#8217;s\u00a0guild might have a similar practice.\u00a0 I told Linda that my mug gets washed when\u00a0I get home from the guild meeting and it is put right back into its bag along with my name badge so\u00a0I am ready for the next meeting&#8211;just grab my bag and go.\u00a0 I think Linda is going to adopt this process as well.\u00a0 The outside of the bag\u00a0has a number of pockets&#8211;designed to hold a spoon, tea bag, sugar packet, etc.\u00a0 The pattern for the mug tote is from an Australian\u00a0Patchwork and Quilting\u00a0magazine some years ago.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-gB8deatXo20\/TkiTWaNeubI\/AAAAAAAAGl8\/tmrHoY04ogU\/s1600\/DSC_0239.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-gB8deatXo20\/TkiTWaNeubI\/AAAAAAAAGl8\/tmrHoY04ogU\/s320\/DSC_0239.JPG\" width=\"262\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The pattern that Linda picked for us each to work on after the\u00a0gift opening\u00a0was first featured in the Winter 2010 issue of Quilts &#038; More.\u00a0 The pattern was called Line Art in that magazine, with a picture here:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allpeoplequilt.com\/magazines\/quiltsandmore\/color-options-winter-2010_ss10.html\">http:\/\/www.allpeoplequilt.com\/magazines\/quiltsandmore\/color-options-winter-2010_ss10.html<\/a><br \/>Allpeoplequilt.com has featured a second colourway called, Skinny Strips, with a picture here:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allpeoplequilt.com\/projects-ideas\/throws-wall-hangings\/skinny-strips_1.html.\">http:\/\/www.allpeoplequilt.com\/projects-ideas\/throws-wall-hangings\/skinny-strips_1.html.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In true challenge fashion, I was having difficulty trying to decide on what &#8220;collection&#8221; of strips to use to make my version of this quilt.\u00a0All I knew\u00a0for sure was that I wanted to use existing stash&#8211;no additional purchases.\u00a0 I cycled through ideas including something patriotic&#8211;just red and white, something Hawaiian&#8211;using some of my Hawaiian-themed fabrics purchased in Hawaii, and something chicken related&#8211;using some of my extensive collection of chicken\/rooster fabrics.\u00a0 I finally decided on a fall-themed version on Saturday morning.\u00a0 Nothing like leaving the decision to the last minute!\u00a0 Because I was late in making the decision on which fabrics to use, I was not 100% ready to start sewing when everyone else was ready to sew.\u00a0 Some of my strips were pulled from my totes of pre-cut strips.\u00a0 I did have to cut a few more background pieces and a few more reds, yellows, and browns to complement the strips I already had cut.<\/p>\n<p>Once your strips are cut, this pattern is definitely doable in a weekend.\u00a0 I was able to finish my version of Line Art, aka Skinny Strips Sunday night to the flimsy stage.\u00a0 Here it is:<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sD4zeSBBwr8\/TkiTYOxpXwI\/AAAAAAAAGmA\/i0xS2Ad4Mho\/s1600\/skinny+strips.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sD4zeSBBwr8\/TkiTYOxpXwI\/AAAAAAAAGmA\/i0xS2Ad4Mho\/s320\/skinny+strips.jpg\" width=\"291\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It was another great day sewing with the FABs.\u00a0 The chatter\/conversation that takes place while we sew probably keeps us from performing at peak production since we need to take time out from pushing the fabric through the machine to type-talk, but it is worth it.\u00a0 Another great day enjoyed by all.\u00a0\u00a0 \ufeff<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday we celebrated Linda&#8217;s birthday.\u00a0 Linda is the 3rd FAB to celebrate her birthday this year.\u00a0 Linda&#8217;s &#8220;actual&#8221;
