{"id":41,"date":"2011-10-23T18:02:00","date_gmt":"2011-10-23T18:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/?p=41"},"modified":"2011-10-23T18:02:00","modified_gmt":"2011-10-23T18:02:00","slug":"utah-new-mexico-vacation-part-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/2011\/10\/utah-new-mexico-vacation-part-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah-New Mexico Vacation-Part 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>After our stay in Santa Fe, we headed north to Colorado.\u00a0 \ufeffWe awoke in Colorado Springs to a dusting of snow.\u00a0 As the sun warmed the ground the snow melt everywhere except Pikes Peak visible in the background of the Garden of the Gods Park in the picture below.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-8qoiI6lZr0E\/TqHMkVCL-iI\/AAAAAAAAHBQ\/BTe_5pJys6o\/s1600\/DSC_0108.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212px\" rda=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-8qoiI6lZr0E\/TqHMkVCL-iI\/AAAAAAAAHBQ\/BTe_5pJys6o\/s320\/DSC_0108.JPG\" width=\"320px\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>In\u00a0August\u00a01859 when two surveyors started out from Denver City to begin a town site, soon to be called Colorado City they came upon a beautiful area of sandstone formations. One of the surveyors\u00a0suggested that it would be a &#8220;capital place for a beer garden&#8221; when the country grew up. His companion,\u00a0exclaimed, &#8220;Beer Garden! Why it is a fit place for the Gods to assemble. We will call it the Garden of the Gods.&#8221; It has been so called ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a picture of Balanced Rock within the Park.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-4qP56fP40Uk\/TqHMstFZWPI\/AAAAAAAAHBY\/xXiIlF0kqm4\/s1600\/DSC_0030.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212px\" rda=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-4qP56fP40Uk\/TqHMstFZWPI\/AAAAAAAAHBY\/xXiIlF0kqm4\/s320\/DSC_0030.JPG\" width=\"320px\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\ufeffThis is a picture of my husband posing as though he was the full weight of the rock on his shoulder.<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-hwliZd0P7OA\/TqHNt1EbUoI\/AAAAAAAAHBo\/bgWZcWbLJr4\/s1600\/DSC_0038e.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320px\" rda=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-hwliZd0P7OA\/TqHNt1EbUoI\/AAAAAAAAHBo\/bgWZcWbLJr4\/s320\/DSC_0038e.JPG\" width=\"212px\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>To get the perspective of size, this is a picture of my husband next to the rock.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-7tCrp2Mbpd0\/TqHNLxibZNI\/AAAAAAAAHBg\/j2j_plvGssw\/s1600\/DSC_0055.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212px\" rda=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-7tCrp2Mbpd0\/TqHNLxibZNI\/AAAAAAAAHBg\/j2j_plvGssw\/s320\/DSC_0055.JPG\" width=\"320px\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After leaving Garden of the Gods, we travelled down the highway to Denver.\u00a0 We enjoyed a tour of downtown Denver with our step-aboard guide which included an inside look at the Capitol building.<\/div>\n<div>\ufeff<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-wkzrZR9t1-E\/TqHJYWszJMI\/AAAAAAAAHAQ\/MBPwPsUenzE\/s1600\/DSC_0279e.PNG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320px\" rda=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-wkzrZR9t1-E\/TqHJYWszJMI\/AAAAAAAAHAQ\/MBPwPsUenzE\/s320\/DSC_0279e.PNG\" width=\"212px\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><span>The capitol building was built in the 1890&#8217;s and in 1908\u00a024 karat gold was used to plate the dome.
