{"id":31,"date":"2012-01-02T17:38:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-02T17:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/?p=31"},"modified":"2012-01-02T17:38:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-02T17:38:00","slug":"happy-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/2012\/01\/happy-new-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy New Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>Have you heard the New Year&#8217;s Day superstition that what you do on New Year&#8217;s Day will be what you do all year long?\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We spent New Year&#8217;s Eve with our daughter and her fiance.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like family out on the roads New Year&#8217;s Eve with all the parties and drinking and driving that goes on, so we had them spend the night.\u00a0 Because my daughter missed our traditional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadianparents.com\/recipe\/christmas-morning-wife-saver\">&#8220;Wife Saver Breakfast&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0on Christmas morning, because she had to work, that is what we had for breakfast on New Year&#8217;s Day morning.\u00a0 After breakfast, my daughter had to head off to work, but it was nice having her here for New Year&#8217;s Eve and then breakfast the next morning.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After breakfast, it was time to focus on how to spend the rest of the day.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/catsnqlts2.blogspot.com\/\">Linda<\/a> and I discussed this issue on New Year&#8217;s Eve and decided that we definitely would not be doing laundry or housework!\u00a0\u00a0We knew we wanted to focus on quilting, but which aspect of quilting did we want to focus on?\u00a0 In the end, we decided to touch on as many different quilting aspects as we could manage to fit into the day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-uS36LAZICu4\/TwFYBCtNEgI\/AAAAAAAAHLw\/jg8SzsoS4wU\/s1600\/DSC_0112.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-uS36LAZICu4\/TwFYBCtNEgI\/AAAAAAAAHLw\/jg8SzsoS4wU\/s320\/DSC_0112.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\ufeff<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\ufeff<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I started my day by doing a few passes on the current quilt that is loaded on the long arm.\u00a0 This quilt is, &#8220;Fire Escape&#8221;, finished to the flimsy state on September 11, 2011.\u00a0 I just love this colour combination&#8211;red and aqua!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silverthimblequilting.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/blog-post.html\">http:\/\/www.silverthimblequilting.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/blog-post.html<\/a><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-ev0N1QAN9-w\/TwFX2SWTK6I\/AAAAAAAAHLo\/YeuuOemcvsk\/s1600\/DSC_0111.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-ev0N1QAN9-w\/TwFX2SWTK6I\/AAAAAAAAHLo\/YeuuOemcvsk\/s320\/DSC_0111.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\ufeff<\/div>\n<div>\ufeff<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\ufeff<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The next project I worked on was something that could be considered a reward&#8211;something quick to finish that would bring instant satisfaction of accomplishment.\u00a0 I purchased a table runner kit on a blog hop in June 2006 that has been sitting safely in its plastic sleeve since that time.\u00a0 I decided today would be the day to work on that project.\u00a0 This was an old project, not really a UFO since it hadn&#8217;t been out of the plastic, that needed to be finished.\u00a0\u00a0 This one is now finished to the flimsy stage.\u00a0 This runner finishes at approximately 50&#8243; x 20&#8243;.\u00a0 I love how this one turned out!<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-6z-JnACEx8w\/TwFYb9KcLYI\/AAAAAAAAHMI\/r0sDK9OR79E\/s1600\/DSC_0107.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"134\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-6z-JnACEx8w\/TwFYb9KcLYI\/AAAAAAAAHMI\/r0sDK9OR79E\/s320\/DSC_0107.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This runner is the same pattern as the runner that I finished up for my Mom for Christmas this past year.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/silverthimblequiltingarchive.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/quilt-shop-hop-2006.html\">http:\/\/silverthimblequiltingarchive.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/quilt-shop-hop-2006.html<\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div>In September 2009, I purchased the fabrics to make Terry Atkinson&#8217;s, &#8220;Got Stripes?&#8221; quilt.\u00a0 This quilt is comprised of two blocks&#8211;a block made from striped fabrics and a star block.\u00a0 I made the striped blocks right away and then set the fabric and pattern on the shelf.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-1oIQ3sQ7_X0\/TwFYIpz4lJI\/AAAAAAAAHL4\/SR2YHCJ0DRA\/s1600\/DSC_0109.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"135\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-1oIQ3sQ7_X0\/TwFYIpz4lJI\/AAAAAAAAHL4\/SR2YHCJ0DRA\/s320\/DSC_0109.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>When I took this one off the shelf to work on it, it took a bit to remember what fabrics I had decided to use where on the stars.\u00a0 Only some of the fabrics for the star blocks had actually been cut.\u00a0 Further confusing the situation was a navy blue batik fabric that I had also purchased at the time I bought these fabrics.\u00a0 At the time, I thought I might make the star points navy blue.\u00a0 I remember not being able to decide between the brown and the navy blue.\u00a0 I ended up buying both fabrics and decided today to go with the brown.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-jMsfBl8h_Kk\/TwFYSwLjtUI\/AAAAAAAAHMA\/3opx3VW91ps\/s1600\/DSC_0110.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-jMsfBl8h_Kk\/TwFYSwLjtUI\/AAAAAAAAHMA\/3opx3VW91ps\/s320\/DSC_0110.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I am loving how this one is turning out.\u00a0 I finished 5 of the 50 required stars for this queen sized quilt tonight before having to call it quits.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silverthimblequilting.blogspot.com\/2009\/11\/current-projects.html\">http:\/\/www.silverthimblequilting.blogspot.com\/2009\/11\/current-projects.html<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I think this was a very successful New Year&#8217;s Day!\u00a0 <\/div>\n<div>&#8211; I stared the day with a wonderful meal together with my family.<\/div>\n<div>&#8211; I managed to keep activities for the day related to quilting.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0I worked on using my existing stash.<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;
