{"id":1617,"date":"2015-09-07T19:50:18","date_gmt":"2015-09-08T02:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/?p=1617"},"modified":"2015-09-07T19:50:18","modified_gmt":"2015-09-08T02:50:18","slug":"two-finished-flimsies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/2015\/09\/two-finished-flimsies\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Finished Flimsies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is Labour Day weekend here in Canada so that means a three day weekend! \u00a0What better way to spend it than sewing?<\/p>\n<p>I have been trying to catch up on some of the UFO&#8217;s that have been languishing on the shelves of my studio. \u00a0First up, I added borders to my Hawksbill Honu Sashiko piece. \u00a0The turtle is a <a href=\"http:\/\/sylvia-pippen.com\/product\/hawksbill-honu-sashiko-kit\/\">Sylvia Pippen Design<\/a>. \u00a0In April 2013, our quilt guild brought Val Wojutla to our monthly meeting for a trunk show of her work. \u00a0The following day, Val stayed to teach a Sashiko class to our membership.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1620\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Val-Wojutla_Sashiko_April-2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1620\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1620\" src=\"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Val-Wojutla_Sashiko_April-2013.jpg\" alt=\"Val Wojutla Trunk Show - April 2013 - Val is holding the class sample for the workshop she taught the following day.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Val Wojutla Trunk Show &#8211; Flimsy &#8211; 24.5 inches square<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The second flimsy that I finished today was my Redwork Sunbonnet Sue. \u00a0I am not so sure I am totally sold on the outer border. \u00a0Next time, I may just forego the borders altogether. \u00a0However, the borders have brought it up to 56&#8243; x 69&#8243; which would be a nice size for some little girl&#8217;s bed.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern is by<a href=\"\u00a0They%20were originally quite small in size and have been enlarged so that they fit nicely within a 9&quot; finished square. \"> Mary Ellen Von Holt of Little Quilts<\/a>. \u00a0The original pattern makes a quilt that finishes 22&#8243; x 28&#8243;.\u00a0 \u00a0I don&#8217;t do &#8220;that small&#8221; so I enlarged the designs so that they fit nicely within a 9&#8243; finished square.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, I did not record when I started stitching these blocks. \u00a0I received the patterns for the blocks in November 2010. \u00a0I don&#8217;t remember if I started stitching on the blocks right away, but it would have been soon after that time. \u00a0I stitched my blocks using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmc-usa.com\/Products\/Needlework-Threads\/Embroidery-Threads\/Pearl-Cotton-Balls.aspx\">DMC pearl cotton<\/a>\u00a0number 8, colour 498. \u00a0(I just realized that DMC pearl cotton has dye lot numbers. \u00a0I have two skeins of colour 498 and they are DEFINITELY not the same red!) \u00a0My mother started a similar set of blocks in January 2014 using many different colours of floss. \u00a0It will be interesting to see how her blocks turn out.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1619\" style=\"width: 265px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015_September-6_Sunbonnet-Sue-Redwork_Flimsy_56-in-x-69-in-Optimized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1619\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1619\" src=\"https:\/\/silverthimble.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015_September-6_Sunbonnet-Sue-Redwork_Flimsy_56-in-x-69-in-Optimized-255x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sunbonnet Sue Redwork Flimsy - 56&quot;
