This past summer my quilt guild sponsored a black and white quilt challenge. The rules were simple–only use black and white fabrics. You were allowed to add one other colour as long as the quilt was predominantly was black and white. The quilt could be any size or shape.
The quilts were finished over the summer and revealed at our first guild meeting in September–last Wednesday night.
I didn’t participate in the challenge–I ran out of time. However, one of my customers did rise to the challenge and she had me quilt her quilt for her. This is that quilt:
These are some of the other quilts completed by other members of our guild. The woman in the center created a quilt in a bag–a quillow. She is pictured in the center of this picture and is seen taking the quilt out of its bag.
This was the back of that same quilt.
And what a fun challenge!
What a great assortment of quilts. I’ve never been in a quilt challenge but it always sounds like a fun idea. I always feel I have the time issues like you did.
What a talented group of women, indeed!!
This is my all time hands down favorite challenge! (I really like the one with turquoise & the Japanese puzzle one.)
I once thought to do an abstract chicken quilt using this as the basis but adding red & yellow.
Oh those just gorgeous! Isn’t it amazing that a black and white quilt can look so good with absolutely any “one” extra colour included? I’d have used lime green if I’d been in the challenge.
I’ve been collecting B&W fabric for a couple years after seeing a quilt using that theme that I loved. What great inspiration. I must get it out and think again.
Those are beautiful and definitely a very talented group of women.
How interesting these all turned out with the limited palette.
The little black and white feathered star reminds me of a snowflake.
Thanks for the virtual ‘quilt show’. Love all the b/w! quilts.
I’ve always loved monochrome quilts with a single bright – shocking pink/cerise is my usual favourite. These are all so different and all so lovely
Oh how fun to see all the variations! I actually love that black and white and green one! That is very cool! What fun!
Lovely quilts!! I just finished my first black and white quilt. It’s on my blog. 🙂 I really like working with black and white. Even tho they don’t go in my house, it was fun to make, and I’ll probably do another on, someday. 🙂
