Today I am going to quilt! I have a day off from work so I am going to make sure I fit in something for me!
Last weekend, I was looking through my inspiration pictures that I have collected from the internet over the years and I came across a quilt that Lucy from Quilting With The Past had posted back in December. Lucy called her quilt, UFO number 5.
I am calling my version of this quilt, Double 4 Patch. (Not very creative I know, just descriptive of the block pattern.) I have decided to make my quilt from my box of pre-cut 3″ squares. This means that my blocks finish 10″ square. With 24 blocks and an outside 5″ border, my quilt should finish about 63″ x 88″. If I keep to this size range I can make use of existing fabrics in my stash for the backing–a true stash buster.
This is a picture of some of the blocks that I have made already – they are being auditioned on the fabric that I intend to use for the sashings. The three fabrics to the left are the fabrics that I am considering for cornerstones – beige, yellow, and red. I am leaning towards the yellow.
I like how the one color chains through the blocks–very nice and as you said, it will be a good stashbuster. Enjoy your day at home and get some fabric playing in.
I’m jealous, a day off in the middle of the week. Have fun. I like the yellow also, unless you have a piece of purple. You have several blocks of purple in the blocks.

I would have picked the beige. I love double 4 patch blocks but I don’t typically sash my blocks. The next quilt I load for quilting will be the queen size one Mom and I made for my son for his wedding.
I love the blocks. I think the dark sashing is a darig choice…
Your challenge pillow looks very nice and so do your quilt in the making. Lucy’s quilt is very nice too. I am looking forward to see yours quilted 🙂
PS. I like the yellow cornerstones best.
I think any of them will look good – if you want people’s eyes to follow a dark diagonal chain, you could use a darker cornerstone to connect them, and if you have a light diagonal, maybe a light cornerstone?
But then, I tend to like scrappy quilts with scrappy cornerstones… 🙂

I like what you’re doing with those squares. I have so many 3 inch strips I think I can make a dozen quilts with them. I also like the pattern you chose to put the squares in. Very nice. Love the pillow.
You double 4 patch looks good – and I like your choice of the yellow for the cornerstones. Hmm, now you have me thinking – I have lots of squares cut…… Another good idea to remember.
Oh, that bottom right block is so yummy, I could make a whole quilt of just those! What fun to use up your scraps this way.
With all my scraps, I couldn’t resist buying a package of 3″ pre-cut CW squares at PIQF last year – at least it doesn’t take up much room!
